WRITING FOR THE INDIE MARKET

PURPOSE: Write the Best Low Budget Movie We've Ever Seen.

This is a three month long class that will give you time to complete a script before the November program in Hollywood. It will use all the skills you've learned in the ProSeries and the Fresh & Edgy class.

1. Two teleconferences

• First on "Decision Factors" for Indie Filmmakers.
• Second on the "Writing that Sizzles" strategies for
  writing.

2. Two floating coaching calls on whatever you need help on.

High Concept
Structure
Lead Characters
Outline
Opening scene
Ending
Highly emotional moment
etc.

3. Three or more full scale interviews with Indie Producers or Directors.

We need to understand their wants and needs so we increase the chance of you making a deal and having a long-term relationship with the filmmaker. If possible, I'll do the interview on a live teleconference, which will give you a chance to ask questions, also. Either way, I'll record the interview so you can listen to it as many times as you'd like.

These calls will be spread out through the program to keep you in touch with your primary purpose.

4. Our Special Partner Process for Writing.

Early on, you'll select a partner to go through this program with. Then, with each scene you write, you'll do three things

1. You'll select the most appropriate Skill Mastery Sheet from the ProSeries so you focus on the
   skills that are most important to that scene.
2. You'll exchange the scene with your partner and give each other feedback.
3. After reading the feedback, you'll do a quick rewrite and then move on to the next scene.

This process means your First Draft will be better than most people's final draft.

5. Group Script Consulting

In groups of 4, you'll exchange scripts for evaluations, get feedback, and
rewrite your script.

6. Coaching call on your Marketing Materials

At the conclusion of the 3 month class, you'll write and submit your marketing materials. Hal will do a coaching call with you to make your One Page and Query Letter the best they can be.
